I am rereading Women, Fire, and Dangerous Things: What Categories Reveal About the Mind, and I was wondering: has anyone researched folk categorizations of the internet? You know when you do user research and people talk about the internet in terms that sound simplistic? Has anyone researched those terms and categories? For example, insight in the category "website" might help to explain in how far people distinguish between "websites" they're on. I've seen many people follow links to other websites not even realizing they are actually on another website.
