Dennis Ritchie
Computer scientist (1941–2011) at Bell Labs who created the C programming language and co-created the Unix operating system with Ken Thompson. He won the Turing Award in 1983. Bell Labs is where the title "Member of Technical Staff" was in use well before Xerox PARC, as covered in Member of the UX Staff. See Wikipedia.
