Dual Translation
What non-native speakers do when a manager says something like "coming out of left field": first decode the figurative language, then map it onto the business concept, while the conversation keeps moving. Nobody designs this to exclude people, but native speakers who know the sports metaphors glide through and everyone else falls behind in real time. From a note by The Strategic Linguist.
